REAL LIFE CHATROOM EXPERIENCES

I have just become a one parent family. My wife (soon to be ex) has left me and my children, she has moved to Canada, it is all too late for me now.
Please Please Please, do not make the same mistakes that I have made. The chat forum is a good thing, but in my case my wife was courted and flattered to the point that she has walked out, leaving me with our two children.
Looking back now the signs were there, the secretive behaviour, the lies all there now. But I did not see the danger at the time. In fact she was not always in chat, sometimes they would meet in a card room, use pms (personal messages) even use different names to make it look innocent.
All I can do now is get on with life, pick up the pieces, not let the children see me crying and let as many people as I can know that although chat i a good thing, it can also be a real danger.
Also all parents please watch what your children are doing on their computers, there are some really sick people out there.

Good way for single people to meet   must admit when we first got the internet, yahoo chat was very appealing. the layout was simple, bright and well organised. on java it was really fast, there are hundreds of rooms to pick from, and therefore a wide diverse of people to talk to. all you need is to sign up, and get a user name, which will enable you to chat. when, you sign up you also get a email address which is good. you can make your own chat-room up, and invite people to it, which is good. but, more impressive was the fact they had online yahoo chat help. which was very handy, when i experienced some technical difficulty with java. i, think this gives it an edge over most chat-rooms, as other do not offer this service. i, actually had a few good chats with people especially when i was doing research into the u.s stock market, but after a while i thought 'how tedious' most people lied out of their heads, used vile language, and used the net mainly for dating and to generally get kicks. i, always rate stuff, by asking who will it be suitable for, and i have to say, you have to be over 18, to go into yahoo chat. the language they use is disgusting. i certainly wouldn't like it if my niece went on it. they have racists rooms, with racist openly voicing their hatred. surely there most be some control from yahoo. but, there isn't any. some of the nicks (id's) are vulgar, and make you sick. yahoo surely must be aware of them. there is no regulations what so ever. the content of the chat might not be first class, but the concept is. they have voice chat, which is very good, and the sound quality is very good. you, have the option to talk in private with private messaging, and can chose to ignore people if you wish etc. a good chat, but needs regulating like msn chat need a host, who has the control to 'ban' people for using bad language etc. not for kids. Advantages   Disadvantages LAY-OUT, NAVIGATION   love chatting online, with friends and family, as it's a good, cheap, easy way to communicate with people who are either miles away, or it's too expensive to ring them. yahoo! chat was the first chat room that i began to use, and it's a bit naff and tacky, but does the job. apart from the weirdos online of course. you can either access yahoo! chat through the internet off www.uk.chat.yahoo.com, or by downloading yahoo! messenger off the website at www.yahoo.co.uk. if you do this, you have a little ikon on your desktop, which opens up "messenger" in which a list of your "friends" pops up, and you can chat to them directly. or, you can go into a chat room. i prefer now to chat on messenger, because i can get to my mates through it, and chatrooms are full of really weird people nowadays. when you go to enter chat, you chose a name, and register with yahoo, and chose which room you cant to chat in. i prefer chatting in uk rooms, but there are ones for specific interest groups, as well as regional rooms. once you are in a room, you simply type in the box, and press "enter" to put your text into the room. you have the option of various colours, sizes and types of font in which to type, and several little faces to display "emotions". there is also a list of the people in the room on the right hand side of the screen. if you click on a name, you can either chose to look at their profile online, or send them a "private message", which comes up in a separate window, and is between you and the otehr chatter. and if you don't like the room you're in, you can leave it and create your own. you can decide whether or not it's private (only for those who you invite), or public (anyone can come in). it's up to you. one massive word of warning.... there are many weirdos online these days, and many are perverted young men. being 21 and female, I am prone to getting people come up to me and ask if I'm up for a good time, can I get to London in 2 hours for a "session", or whether I'm wearing any knickers. It's disgusting. And with the invention of webcams, believe me, it gets worse. All I can say is that chatrooms are great as long as you know and trust the people you are chatting to. It's very easy to get involved with people, and become way way too attached to them. Be really careful if you ever plan to meet anyone off the internet. I've done it with mixed results, but I cannot stress safety too much. Oh, one more word of advice....there's an "ignore" button which is rather handy to avoid ever having to chat to those pervets again...
